Take your appreciation of cinema to a new level, deepen your understanding of the unique and creative possibilities of film language. Join Julian Bowker over 4 Wednesday evenings and study a variety of different film techniques and approaches; covering cinematography, editing, mise-en-scene and sound / music.
The course content will pull from a range of film extracts from different eras and genres and from a variety of film makers; directors such as Orson Welles, Barry Jenkins and Celine Sciamma and editors such as Elizaveta Svivlova, Thelma Schoonmaker and Mary Sweeney.
Julian has been teaching film and film theory for over 30 years. For a time he was also an Education Officer at the BFI (British Film Institute) where his role was to encourage an ongoing appreciation of film and help develop media literacy across audiences.
