For Christmas 2024, Depot is bringing you festive favourites, alternative classics, and a few unexpected offerings set over the yuletide period
Looking for something out of the ordinary? Then don’t miss Krampus, in which a little boy’s sadness summons an ancient, folkloric creature. For throwback monster fun, catch 80s classic Gremlins, which sees a horde of mischievous critters descend on a small town. Providing Christmas spookiness of a cosier kind Lazy Girls Film Club presents Bell, Book and Candle, starring Kim Novak as a stylish New York witch who casts a love spell on a hapless publisher (played by Novak’s Vertigo co-star James Stewart).
If our Art of Action season has you looking for more stunt-based thrills, we’re bringing you Die Hard 2, in which detective John McClane spends his Christmas mixed up in another terrorist plot, this time while waiting for his wife at an International Airport. For an altogether different sort of marital crisis, join us for Stanley Kubrick’s misunderstood psychosexual masterpiece Eyes Wide Shut, celebrating its 25th anniversary.
Enjoy the ultimate Christmas classic with It’s a Wonderful Life, featuring Jimmy Stewart as a man who wishes he had never been born, only for an angel to show him how different things would have been. Bring the family along for a madcap comedy adventure in How the Grinch Stole Christmas, starring Jim Carrey as Dr. Seuss’ infamous Christmas-hating grump! Little cinemagoers will love the CBeebies Panto, which this year tells the story of Beauty and the Beast.
Our programme also includes exciting new releases. Mufasa: The Lion King follows Simba’s father Mufasa as an orphaned cub, while Robbie Williams biopic Better Man charts Williams’ meteoric rise and dramatic fall with one big twist – in this version, he’s a chimp. Finally, we start the new year with Robert Eggers’ long-awaited Nosferatu, in which Bill Skarsgård takes on the role of the terrifying Count Orlok.
