There’s something for everyone this festive season at Depot!
Enjoy traditional Christmas classics with It’s a Wonderful Life (1946), Scrooge (1951), and a Dementia Friendly screening of Meet Me in St. Louis (1944); ‘90s family favourites Miracle on 34th Street (1994), The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992), and Home Alone (1990); alternative yuletide offerings including Die Hard (1988) and Toyko Godfathers (2003) (introduced by Depot’s Marketing Manager and anime aficionado Bob Prosser), as well as Hirokazu Koreeda’s stunning After Life (1999), presented by Kino Collective.
If you’re looking for a spooky festive treat, Depot’s Cinelogue strand presents Ghost Stories for Christmas, giving you a rare chance to see two of the best episodes of the classic BBC series on the big screen, with an introduction from early film historian Frank Gray. Technicolour masterpiece The Red Shoes (1948) screens as part of The Imaginations of Powell + Pressburger, introduced on 9 December by writer and film historian Pamela Hutchinson.
And if that wasn’t enough, we’re bringing you exciting new releases! Wonka is the latest film from Paddington director Paul King, starring Timothée Chalamet as the world’s most famous chocolatier. Wish is the new musical adventure from Disney, in which a young woman makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force. Hayao Miyazaki writes and directs The Boy and the Heron, the astonishing new animation from Studio Ghibli.
Finally, it wouldn’t be Christmas without Live Arts performances, including a much-loved Christmas Panto with CBeebies: Robin Hood; and Peter Wright’s beloved Royal Ballet production The Nutcracker.
