The Great DOLLY Clothes Swap

The Great DOLLY Clothes Swap

Saturday 23 April
15:00 – 18:00

It’s Fashion Revolution Week! Let’s get swapping instead of shopping and let big brands know we won’t stand for unregulated exploitation and waste in the garment industry.

The Fashion Revolution Week campaign has become the largest fashion activism movement in the world. And we’re part of it.

Join the revolution at Depot on Saturday 23 April from 15:00 – 18:00 in the Studio.

Here’s how the DOLLY Clothes Swap works:

  • Drop off your swaps in advance from 20 April onwards at the DOLLY Shop or at Depot’s box office, or bring them with you on the day.
  • Tickets cost £6 and are available via Depot’s box office or online.
  • As always, we invite you to bring what you can and take what you like.
  • Diana will be on hand to answer any and all questions about how to tailor your new-to-you finds to fit you perfectly.

Grab yourself a ticket and we’ll see you there!

Frequently asked questions:

1. Will there be clothes for men/teens/different sizes?
Clothes swaps are always dependent on what you lot bring, that’s part of the fun! We’re starting to see more menswear at the swaps, and there’s always plenty for teens and people of all different sizes and ages.

2. Why do you charge a flat fee rather than charge per item?
We believe the flat fee encourages people to consider the non-monetary value of clothing. We’re on a mission to change the way people think about clothes; where they come from, how they’re made, what they cost in terms of earth resources, etc. Fast fashion has distorted the way we value our clothes, we hope our clothes swaps throw a spanner into the fast fashion machine.

3. I don’t have any clothes to swap, can I still come?
YES PLEASE! While each of our clothes swaps keep on average 500+ items of clothing out of landfill, we are still left with two carloads of unwanted clothes after each event. For every person looking for new clothes, there is another desperate to clear out their closet.

4. What does it cost to alter a garment?
It depends on the specific alteration. For example, if you find a pair of trousers that fit you beautifully on the hips/waist but are too long and baggy in the leg, it will cost you around £20 to get them tapered and shortened. So that’s £26 in total for a perfect fitting, tailored pair of trousers. You can ask Diana about altering pieces you find at the swap. We strongly encourage a bit of tailoring.
