Includes a Q&A with director Rebecca Coley, hosted by Andy Fielding
Stumbling across the perfect wave, two surfers start a chain reaction of unintended consequences. Point Of Change chronicles the first surfers to 'discover' the point break on Nias Island, Indonesia, and the unintended dramatic consequences which followed.
In this true story the new colonials are surfers - innocent travelling hippies in the 1970s with no idea of the culture they are walking into, and when they find their Holy Grail the dark side is malaria, sickness, culture clashes and the case of a missing girl. They also unwittingly open the door to the devastating destruction of the pristine paradise they discovered as the secret travels fast, far and wide.
This compelling and dramatic story is told through a unique blend of previously unseen super 8 archive, contemporary interview and beautiful animation, the film reveals an all too resonant picture of a society changed inevitably by powerful economic & environmental forces outside of their control.
The film also features an original score by Academy Award winner Stephen Warbeck with exclusive music tracks by Paul Oakenfold, featuring local musicians, plus Time and Space Machine and tracks by Dick Dale, the Surf Punks and The Temptations.
Perfection comes at a cost.
