Wine Tasting Sessions in Robert's Bar

Previously known mainly to Alpine skiers the Haute-Savoie wine region has expanded alongside the growth in summer tourism and regional gastronomy. The winemakers in the region use a wide range of unusual grape varieties over an area of 2,000 hectares located south of Lake Geneva. The cold winters and cool summers require hardy grapes which produce light dry whites but surprisingly complex reds from Mondeuse and Gamay with light tannins. Of particular note are the light, dry Apremont white wines produced from Jacquère grapes and the distinctive Rousette de Savoie whites using the Altesse grape variety.

Recently a Cremant de Savoie, made from a blend of local grape varieties has had international success. All the wines are marketed with a distinctive Savoie historic banner which inverts the Swiss flag. The lighter whites are particularly popular paired with local specialities such as fondues, raclette and tartiflette.

Our wine tasting session, involving seven wines from the region, will be guided by local wine enthusiast Robert Senior.
