Depot is turning 5!

Save the date! May 2022 sees five years since Depot first opened its doors to the world, and we think that’s as good a reason as any to have a celebration.

During the end of May and beginning of June, we’ll be holding a whole host of unique and special events to mark five years since our opening to the public. You can bet we’ll be doubling down on what we do best to celebrate the things at our core; incredible films; fantastic food; fun events; and of course, the people that help make Depot what it is – you, the customers, our local community.

“It certainly has been an extraordinary five years, with 2017  feeling both like a lifetime ago as well as no time ago at all. I speak for us all when I say that we couldn’t be more ecstatic at how welcoming and supportive the community has been of Depot, and we only hope that we have been as welcoming and supportive to you all in return.

Depot wouldn’t be where it is today without all the staff that have come and gone, and we thank everyone who has taken part in the last five years for helping build Depot into what we hoped it would be – an arts venue championing sustainable practices and showcasing the best in arthouse, independent and world cinema. Here’s to another 5 years!

We’re thrilled to announce Depot’s very first outdoor screening, taking place on our terrace. The film? Jean Vigo’s profoundly moving masterpiece of classic cinema, L’Atalante. We hope you can join us for what will be a unique and very special summer evening.

Five genres. Five films. And the winners are…

We’ve been delving deep into the Depot archives and have uncovered a treasure trove of memories. We invite you to join our trip down memory lane as we display snapshots of Depot history – photos, videos, posters and memorabilia – in our studio throughout our anniversary month.

Make a Zoetrope!

Zoetropes are the earliest form of motion pictures. During this workshop you will discover the history of this pre-animation technology and how it fits into the wider history of the illusion of motion and the development of cinema – led by Peter Cole, Sam Le Prevost and Lucy Williams.

By the end of the workshop, you will have made your own hand-held zoetrope cylinder, as well as your own zoetrope strips which you can view through the devices made during the workshop!

The ticket cost is £35 per participant, and the workshop takes place on Saturday 11 June, from 10:30 – 16:30

Share your Depot memories with us

For our anniversary, we would love for you to share you favourite Depot memories with us – perhaps a special event you came to, a one-off screening, meeting up with family and friends after a long time or even a particular dish from our menu that has been on your mind since you first ate it! We want to know what is it about Depot that has stuck with you.

We’ll collate the submissions and include a selection in our anniversary exhibition that will run in our studio. We look forward to hearing from you!
