In the late 1950s, Gillian Holroyd is a witch living in New York City's Greenwich Village.

When she encounters charming publisher Shepherd Henderson, she decides to make him hers by casting a love spell.

Gillian takes added pleasure in doing so because Henderson is engaged to her old college rival, but is surprised to find herself actually falling for Shepherd.

Here's what Lazy Girls Film Club Founder Eleanor has to say...

I can vividly remember watching Bell, Book and Candle for the first time. This supernatural romantic comedy took me completely by surprise and by the end I was in love. The film reunites Vertigo co-stars Kim Novak and Jimmy Stewart and was released the very same year as Hitchcock's film.

Set in a snow covered Manhattan at Christmas, Novak has never looked more stylish than she does here as Gillian, and watching her toy with Stewart is great fun. The film is full of spell-casting and goofball humour that would go on to inspire the 60s sitcom Bewitched. It also features big name stars like Elsa Lanchester, best known for her leading role in Bride of Frankenstein. It is a perfectly cosy film for a spooky festive evening!
