Based on J.G. Ballard’s novel of the same name and directed by Canadian genre stalwart David Cronenberg, Crash follows a TV director from his involvement in a life-altering car accident to his descent into an shady subculture of road accident victims who can only achieve sexual arousal with the help of cars - and their ‘raw sexual energy’.
Infamous both now and at the time of release, Crash has always divided viewers, never more publicly than when it won the Special Jury Prize at Cannes, an award that jury president Frances Ford Coppola refused to present to Cronenberg.
