MONIA CHOKRI. FRANCE 2025. 133 MINS. FRENCH WITH ENGLISH SUBTITLES.
What price does a woman have to pay for sexual and creative freedom? That's the question at the heart of an intense drama in which a writer battles for custody of her son.
At the outset of Love Me Tender, Clémence moves confidently through her world, balancing the discipline of daily swims and writing sessions alongside casual sexual encounters, and co-parenting her son Paul. But after revealing her queer identity to her ex-husband, Clémence faces a legal fight to maintain the bond with her child without compromising her autonomy.
Adapted from the semi-autobiographical novel by Constance Debré and nominated for the Queer Palm at Cannes 2025, the film is anchored by a compelling performance from Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread and Corsage).
Followed by Cinemas of the Mind Club free post-screening discussion facilitated by Dr Jake Harvey, a forensic psychiatrist, and Jenny Leeburn, a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, focusing on the psychological aspects of the film and the emotional impact on the viewer. Open to everyone and all perspectives, the discussion will start shortly after the film in the Studio and last for up to an hour.
