Introduced by Chair of Trustees Robert Senior
During the end of the Civil War, Major Dundee guards Confederate prisoners, Union deserters and ordinary hard-bitten criminals in a remote fort.
When Apaches attack the fort and make off with three children, Dundee must set up a posse including Confederates, who face a choice between joining up or being shot.
"The bastard son of John Ford, Sam Peckinpah made some of the greatest westerns ever made, bringing a visceral power to narratives which revised the mythology of the classic period. Best known for The Wild Bunch (1968) and Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973) his 1965 film Major Dundee has long passed unnoticed.
Restored in 2008 with additional scenes and a new soundtrack the film can now be seen close to the directors vision. And it’s one of the great westerns with a terrific cast, lashings of moral conflict and rousing action scenes." Chair of Trustees Robert Senior
