Part of Cinecity 2026 at Depot. A Cinemas of the Mind screening.

How do you support a young child struggling to cope with the aftermath of a deeply traumatic incident? That’s the question at the heart of this powerful and thought-provoking drama starring Channing Tatum and Gemma Chan.

A peaceful father-daughter outing to play football in the park is shattered when eight-year-old Josephine (superbly played by Mason Reeves) witnesses a horrific sexual assault. As Josephine struggles to articulate what she has experienced, those around her find it equally difficult to cope with the aftermath of what has taken place. Winner of the Grand Jury Dramatic Prize at this year’s Sundance Festival, Josephine is a complex exploration of the pervading horror of violence in everyday life.

‘Channing Tatum is a knockout in shattering drama of lost innocence…It’s an instantly memorable performance in a haunting movie, one that I have carried with me in the hours since I’ve seen it.’ - Adrian Horton, The Guardian

Followed by a Cinemas of the Mind free post-screening discussion facilitated by Dr Jake Harvey, a forensic psychiatrist, and Jenny Leeburn, a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, focusing on the psychological aspects of the film and the emotional impact on the viewer. Open to everyone and all perspectives, the discussion will start shortly after the film in the Studio and last for up to an hour.
