£80 for full course

Whether you’re just starting out or looking to develop your skills, this 4-week hands-on photography course will give you the confidence to take images you'll be proud to share.

Led by Kate Swanson, a qualified teacher and working photographer, this course is perfect for anyone with a DSLR or mirrorless camera that has manual mode capabilities.

The course blends technical instruction with creative inspiration drawn from films about the lives and work of influential photographers. You’ll learn the fundamentals of photography while gaining insight into the artistic process.

Each week, you’ll dive into key photography concepts and get the chance to put your learning into practice through plenty of exercises.

What you’ll learn:
- Manual exposure: Master how ISO, shutter speed, and aperture work together to get the perfect shot
- File formats: Understand the differences between RAW and JPG, with tips on how to store your images properly
- Lenses: Explore focal lengths, and the advantages of prime vs zoom lenses
- Autofocus vs manual focus: Learn key focusing techniques and tips
- White balance: Adjust for different lighting conditions to achieve accurate colours in your photos
- Creative techniques: Experiment with panning, zoom burst, and depth of field to add creative flair to your images
- Throughout the course, you’ll have weekly take-home tasks to keep you exploring outside of class, with an optional space to share your work and get feedback in a supportive, friendly environment.

Participants will need their own DSLR or mirrorless camera with manual mode capabilities. Early sign-up is recommended, as spaces tend to fill up quickly.

"I loved the course! The content, delivery, and pace were perfect for me. I can’t believe I’m using full manual mode after just three sessions and have rediscovered my love for photography. Thanks again, Kate!" – Richard, former course participant
