Part of CINECITY 2025
Eighteen-year-old Marina arrives in Vigo to visit her father's extended family, who have fallen out of touch since the death of her mother and father. She also needs official documentation to prove her father's paternity so that she can enroll on a filmmaking course. But Marina's efforts to strengthen family ties are undermined by secrecy and the lingering shame felt by her relatives.
Drawing on Carla Simón's own experiences, this film returns to the themes explored in her autobiographical debut feature, Summer 1993. Romería reveals the links and contrasts between the past and present, skillfully creating a mood of wistful yearning.
