Holocaust Memorial Day 2023

Ordinary People

Lewes Holocaust Memorial Day

Friday 27 January – Sunday 12 February

Holocaust Memorial Day  is a day of remembrance for the six million Jews, 500,000 Roma and the many millions killed in Nazi persecutions and later genocides.

Since 2015, Lewes Holocaust Memorial Day Group have run events in the days around Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) on January 27, which marks the date of the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp in 1945.

The national theme for Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) 2023 is ‘Ordinary People’ – a concept that can be applied on many levels to the positions people are put in during these horrific events. Ordinary people are the victims, the helpers and the perpetrators, or just people that stood by and did nothing during the Holocaust and other genocides.
