NEW! Study Days for schools

Life In Modern Britain: migration, identity & democracy.
A new cross-curricular study day aimed at KS3 and KS4, exploring themes of migration, democracy, rights, and identity in modern Britain through archive film.
Fri 10 Oct: 10:00 – 14:30
Ages 12+ (advisory)
The event is primarily aimed at pupils of KS3 & KS4 History and Citizenship but will also be suitable for those studying Politics, PSHE and Sociology.
From political propaganda to more personal accounts of the times, the morning session will take students on a journey through modern Britain from WWII to the 1980s looking at a range of archive films from the BFI National Archive that offer the perspectives of people who shaped modern Britain, spotlighting a range of experiences and voices. Archive films from this period will be discussed through guided learning activities, and in the context of cross-curricular topics of migration, identity, democracy, and media.
For the afternoon session we will be looking closer to home. Starting with an archive film (courtesy of Screen Archive South East) and speaker focussing on the Pestalozzi Project, started in Sedlescombe, East Sussex, followed by content focussing on current immigration and refugees. Details are still in the process of being confirmed so may change.
All tickets are £3 for students and free for accompanying staff. To reserve spaces for your school or group please email a member of the BFI’s education team using this email: [email protected]
You can read about this event on the BFI’s website, here.
And if you have any questions at all please email me, Anthony Gates:
