Part of CINECITY 2025
Akin and Remi have a distant relationship with their absentee dad, Fola. After returning unexpectedly, Fola decides that his sons should travel with him on a day trip to Lagos.
As they visit landmarks and hear stories from his past, Akin and Femi gain a deeper insight into their father's strengths and flaws, while witnessing political turmoil around them.
Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù commands the screen as Fola, while real-life brothers Chibuike Marvellous Egbo and Godwin Egbo convey the affection beneath their characters' sibling rivalry.
This semi-autobiographical feature debut was co-written by director Akinola Davies Jr and his brother Wale Davies. It was awarded the Special Mention for Camera d'Or at Cannes this year.
‘It's somehow a masterwork by a first-time director whose crafting of an epic scope and sense of tender intimacy makes for another new peak for African cinema' - Robert Daniels, RogerEbert.com
