In the Moment is a show inspired by people living with dementia, presented by Drawing Life and curated by artists Oska Lappin, Matthew Radford and Patrick Altes.  The three artists lead drawing classes for the dementia community, each bringing an element of their own working practice to participants.  In this exhibition the artists present new work showing how they have been influenced by the unique expressions created during their classes. 

The exhibition is accompanied by two events at Depot:

On Saturday 28 September, Tony Benn, Senior Lecturer at University of Brighton School of Art, chairs a discussion about the project with the CEO of Drawing Life, Judy Parkinson and artists, Oska Lappin, Matthew Radford and Patrick Altes. Free tickets

On Saturday 12 October, Julian Bell, Tutor, Royal Drawing School, Artist, Historian will talk about his new book Ways of Drawing with reference to the value of drawing as a vital creative and intellectual endeavour to people living with dementia and their carers.  Victoria Tischler, Professor of Arts and Health / Head of Dementia Care Centre, University of West London, will discuss the therapeutic and wider impacts of creative practice in dementia care. This includes cognitive and social benefits, challenging negative stereotypes about dementia, and raising awareness of creative expression as a healing and aesthetic practice.

The exhibition is open weekends  from 10:00 to 18:00, and from 10:00 – 16:00 on the following weekdays in October – Tue 1, Wed 2, Fri 4, Tue 8, Wed 9, Thu 10, Fri 11 & Tue 15.
